How It Is Made

Every pair of Paper Heart earrings is made by hand in Olympia, Washington, one pair at a time.

The materials

Each pair starts with a lightweight frame cut from PETG plastic. The frame is wrapped in specialty paper, printed paper, or patterned paper, chosen for its color and graphic design, and the surface is sealed with a water-based polyvinyl acetate and acrylic resin.

Earring backings are made from stainless steel and are hypoallergenic, which makes them a good choice for sensitive ears.

How they wear

The seal protects the paper from normal wear and occasional moisture. The earrings are water resistant, but they are not waterproof, so please do not wear them in the shower or swimming, and avoid leaving them in prolonged moisture.

Although they are designed to make a big statement, Paper Heart earrings are surprisingly light. Most pairs weigh between 0.17 and 0.57 ounces and measure about 2 to 3.5 inches long, with the width varying by style.

How to care for them

Store your earrings in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth if they need it. Avoid getting perfume, hairspray, or lotion directly on the paper, and remove your earrings before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping.

No two pairs are exactly the same

Because each pair is handmade, small variations in pattern placement, size, and finish are part of what makes every pair unique.

Most designs can be made again. A remake uses the same paper and the same frame, and it will be close to the original, but never identical, because the pattern is cut from a sheet by hand.
